Our founder Susie-Ann has lived and worked in several foreign countries, from Germany to Mexico. In different cultural spaces, she has been met with different challenges, from the fact that white women are not included in the conversation at all, to the fact that the working days did not have a clear beginning or end
However, there has been a lot of valuable experience gained outside the home country, and the most valuable asset is the acquaintances.
Recently, we started cooperation with Draper Startup House, whose goal is to provide comprehensive support to entrepreneurs whose homeland is not in Estonia, but who still work as entrepreneurs here most of all. The Draper Startup House support program includes, for example, accommodation in the Old Town of Tallinn, a mentoring program for starting a business, and wellness services to maintain your mental and physical health during all of this. It is taking care of mental and physical health that is where Firmafitness lends its helping hand.
Draper Startup House has opened two houses in Tallinn, and we visited the newest one last week. Among others, Ehab, Manan, Oliver and Kirke were also present, who shared their experiences of getting to Estonia and settling in.
It was quite humorous to hear how foreigners see and describe Estonians. The biggest difficulties seemed to be dating: how to understand the true feelings of an Estonian – you have to look into his eyes, because the pupils betray him. However, the best place to learn the language and meet new people had to be the gym.
In general, however, everyone agreed that it is easy to do things in Estonia compared to their homeland: everything is digital, people are friendly, and even the climate is not the worst if you wear the right clothes.
The beginning of our cool cooperative series has thus been set, and many new and exciting things are yet to come. For example, different workshops for the body and mind, mental health lectures and useful business-related workshops where we talk about taxes, e-residency and much more.
